Scopes are some of the important instruments or accessories when it comes to shooting or vermin hunting. When choosing a scope, you shouldn’t choose a random product. Why is the CRUSHUNT 4×32 on this list? Well, we will find out.

The CRUSHUNT 4×32 is one of the most demanded models on the market today. And for good reason. The brand has made some of the most sophisticated scopes available on the market right now.

It is hands down the best ACOG scope for a Mini 14 ranch rifle or any other Mini 14 rifle for that matter. If you need a scope for such rifles, then you should certainly check this out.

First of all, it sports one of the best constructions we have come across. The forged aluminum build is excellent. Therefore, it will last and endure for several hunting seasons.  Due to the build, it can last for a long time regardless of weather conditions. It is waterproof, fog proof, shock proof, and weather resistant. With all these features, you can rest assured that you have one of the most durable scopes on the market.

Apart from the sturdy build, another reason why we rate this model highly is the real fiber optics present in the reticle. This fiber optics system is impressive because it works well to gather ambient light.

As a battery-less scope, you don’t have to pack any extra batteries on your hunting trip. Additionally, there is an illuminated aiming point attached to the scope. This feature is super useful. It allows adjusting your brightness without much fuss. It also makes zeroing in on a target pretty straightforward, but unfortunately we have to mention that zero sometimes fails to hold.

The inbuilt chevron reticle ensures that the user can aim exactly what they want is is super useful even when light conditions are less than optimal. Furthermore, because of the framed lens, light is transmitted at a high level to improve visibility.

A super useful option, you can use it for your small or medium range target shooting. Magnification is impressive here as the 4x magnification is smooth and makes zooming in and out pretty straightforward. With a multicoated lens, you gain a clear image of your target.

This lens also has a diameter of 32mm that lets light pass well and gives a bright picture. The angle of the eyepiece is great as it lets you see the target with consistency. Additionally, the design of the eye relief is generous and good for small range targets.

    What are its best features?
  • Works excellently in dim light
  • Excellent eye relief
  • Great in bad weather
  • Durable build
  • Affordable
    What could be improved?
  • Short eye relief
  • Zero sometime fails to hold

The Vortex Crossfire II 2-7×32 is a wonderful rifle scope that is made for hunters and shooters that find holdover quite tough. Using this model, you don’t have to bother about holdover, wind corrections, and stuff like that. Therefore, it lets you shoot without any worries. Regardless of the range, you can be confident that this model will guide you correctly. The reticle guides you at all times. In addition, due to the design, you can easily focus and adjust the scope. This is mainly down to the fast-focus eyepiece and MOA turrets with resettable formats.

We are always happy to check out a Vortex scope because the brand is known for the high quality of its products. Apart from coming with high quality build and features, the scopes are also always friendly to the pocket. Thankfully, the Vortex Crossfire II 2-7×32 also comes with these same features. The Vortex Crossfire II 2-7×32 is an excellent model for experts and beginners alike due to the spread of functionality.

The Vortex Crossfire II 2-7×32 has similar build to more expensive options in Vortex’s line of scopes. It comes with a magnification power that is highly useful for small to medium range targets. The powers lie between 2x and 7x and this is powered through a 32mm objective lens. Therefore, it lies in a similar range to more expensive options made for experts. With this magnification, you can shoot targets up to a thousand yards away.

This unit has a second focal plane and Bullet Drop Compensating reticle. This makes it easy for you to estimate the effect of bullet drop on the target. If you want complete precision when shooting within 500 yards, you’ll find this feature super useful.

Just like most of Vortex’s high quality scopes, this model sport multicoated lenses and incredible weather proof construction. Therefore, it is handy even in poor weather conditions. The sealing and purging design repudiates moisture, fog, and the elements. Made from the same aluminum used in airplanes, you can rest assured that this is one of the most durable models you can find. Incredibly, despite the durability, it is still very lightweight.

Another notable feature that makes this an awesome pick is the eye relief. The model offers eye relief that lies three inches even when you use the highest magnification. There is also a forgiving eye box that snaps the target quickly.

Once the target has been sighted, you can use the adjustable turrets to set windage and elevation. While there isn’t any parallax turret, the other functions make up for this lack.

Overall, this is an excellent scope. The windage, elevation, magnification, and reticle type results in accurate shooting.

What do we love it for?
  • Excellent for beginners
  • High durability
  • Easy to mount
  • BDC Reticle
    What were we disappointed with?
  • No parallax or adjustable objective

A common question about rifle lovers is the matter of which optic to put on the rifle. Many of the options on the market do not feature any sights. While a good marksman can still hit the target without such scopes, the optical magnification a scope offers makes hitting the target so much easier. While it is good to have a scope, some users are bothered about the price. Thankfully, there are several cheap options on the market. Yet another objection comes up – Quality.

However, with the Bushnell AR Optics 4.5-18x40mm Riflescope, you shouldn’t worry about that. One of the hallmarks of this product is that despite the low price, it mimics the abilities of some of the most expensive options on the market. We got our hands on a Bushnell AR Optics 4.5-18x40mm Riflescope and will give you a detailed breakdown of its features and why we love it.

First of all, right out of the box, it is clear that this is a high quality option. It feels light but sturdy. And since it is made of aluminum material, you can rest assured that you will use it for many years to come. The durability stretches all the way to even the lenses. These are scratchproof and come with a n O-Ring seal. Therefore, moisture cannot get in nor can it fog over even in inclement weather.

As an all-weather scope, you will have a good time using this at all time. Unlike some of the options that we have reviewed, this model comes with parallax modifications. Therefore, you will easily adjust and focus the scope to hit your precise shots. The scope is great for short range and it is listed as infallible over 100 yards.

While the glass is not as good as that found in our top pick, the Nikon, it is certainly not too bad. As with some of the best models, it comes with a BDC reticle. This unit has a second focal plane and Bullet Drop Compensating reticle. This makes it easy for you to estimate the effect of bullet drop on the target. If you want complete precision when shooting within 500 yards, you’ll find this feature super useful. Therefore, relatively long range shooting becomes very easy with this model.

Another nice thing about this scope is the eye relief and eye box. There is up to 3.7 inches of eye relief. This is highly compatible with a Mini 14 ranch rifle and will help you enjoy shooting even more. However, there are some setbacks in this area. For one, while eye relief is cool, the eye box is not as great. It gets tighter as you increase magnification which can make it somewhat hard to hit long-range targets.

As mentioned earlier, the durability here is almost unparalleled when compared to some other options one the market. It is built to last. However, this impressive durability comes with a price – the weight. The scope rifle weighs about 1.3 pounds. You can circumvent this drawback by using a lighter mount.

For windage and elevation, you have a pair of knobs that are easy to adjust and feel sturdy like the rest of the scope.

Nevertheless, it is somewhat cumbersome to adjust the scope. Unlike others that you can just lift, turn and release, this model requires removing the screw, lifting, realigning and reinstalling the screw. As you can see, that is fairly a big number of steps.

However, while that can be a pain, we observed that it is easy to zero the scope.

A major USP of this model is the parallax knob. The side focus parallax knob is something that we have clamored for and it is good to finally get it on a scope. This knob comes in super handy for focusing and getting an optimal sight picture. In conjunction with the knob, there is a fast focus eyepiece too.

If you want an affordable option that offers plenty of useful features, including sturdy construction, then you should consider this model.

    Why are we impressed?
  • Affordable
  • Parallax adjustment knob
  • Sturdy construction
  • Plenty of eye relief
What negatives must you be aware of?
  • Difficult scope adjustments

Best USA Product

REDFIELD REVOLUTION 2-7×33

Features
  • Objective lens diameter: 33 mm
  • Magnification: 2-7x
  • Field of view: 17-43.2 ft. at 100 yds.
  • Eye relief: 3.7-4.2 in.
  • Length: 11 in.
  • Weight: 11.1 oz.

More features: waterproof, fogproof, shockproof, made in the USA, lifetime warranty, Accu-Range reticle for combination of speed & long range precision

Since we have tested scopes from Redfield in the past, we were excited to check out the REDFIELD REVOLUTION 2-7×33. The company makes some impressive scopes and thankfully, this is no exception.

If you are hunting or range shooting, there are several factors that you have to put into consideration, and the good thing is that this model comes with most of the most important features. One of such factors to consider is the size and weight. If you have a large rifle, it is easy for the scope to get in the way. However, you might not have such a problem with a Mini 14 ranch rifle. Nevertheless, it is good that this model sits with decent dimensions that fit most rifles including the REDFIELD REVOLUTION 2-7×33. This scope is short, in a good way of course, and has a smaller objective lens than several other power scopes. Additionally, it is a lightweight option. When paired with a light mount, you’ll carry your rifle around without feeling like you are carrying extra weight.

Durability is another important consideration when choosing a scope for a ranch rifle. The REDFIELD REVOLUTION 2-7×33 comes with a durable construction. Leupold acquired the Redfield company and this has improved the quality of products. The REDFIELD REVOLUTION 2-7×33 has benefited from this take over because the product has come out as one of the most sturdy yet affordable options. The 6061-T6 aluminum build makes for a durable scope. Coupled with the anodized finish, you have a scope that feels sturdy and will last for long. While this isn’t the most durable type of aluminum in scopes, considering the cost, it is still an excellent choice of material.

In addition to the ability to take a beating, this unit is also waterproof. You can therefore use it in the rain or similar conditions without incurring any damage to the scope. The lenses and tubes are sealed and the turrets enjoy the same protection as well. Therefore, this scope is equipped for rainy days and field use should the fancy catch you.

Adjustments are good on this model. As with the top rated models, it comes with elevation and windage adjustments. These are easy to reach and lie on the top and right of the tube. You can turn them by hand without looking. While these are decent, they are somewhat of a weak point of an otherwise excellent scope.

The lenses and glass quality are good, just as with many other models from this manufacturer.

The FOV is very appealing, but what we most love here is the brightness. Comparing magnification settings with other models, you’d also appreciate the near-perfect amount of light that passes through.  The reticle is nice as well and works well enough for our needs. Although crosshairs could be finer, we found that a minor inconvenience.

A wide field of vision is very advantageous when using this scope.  The elevation and windage knobs are finger adjustable and give click sounds when moved.

The major downside observed is that you might experience some POA shift when toggling magnification levels.

Overall, we are huge fans of this scope. It is a budget alternative that still has excellent properties. The glass clarity, light transmission, and the price are some of the most appealing things about this unit.

    Why are we impressed?
  • Lightweight
  • Great in low light
  • Impressive magnification
  • Glass clarity
  • Good eye relief
What negatives must you be aware of?
  • Mushy turrets
  • POA shifts while toggling through magnification

  • Length: 11.1 in.
  • Weight: 23.1 oz.

More features: IE reticle, multi-color mode, low profile illumination control, SWAT for parallax adjustment, premium Zero locking, Zero resetting target turrets

If you want an excellent scope for your Mini 14 range rifle, then this is one of the best options. The UTG3-12X44 comes with several features that beat many of the other options on the market.

When choosing a scope, it is important to choose wisely because a scope can make or break your shooting experience. You want the best experience, and the scope gives you plenty of accuracy when shooting. There are several makers on the market, and we have UTG as one of the most reliable manufacturers down the years. Now, let us discuss some of the reasons why we rate this scope so highly.

First of all, it offers one of the most precise adjustment features of any scope on this roundup. The adjustment is an important consideration when choosing a scope, and this model offers top-grade resetting target turrets to enable you get the best adjustment. Since this is such a key feature, it is good that this scope has it.

Another notable feature is the range estimator. The UTG3-12X44 comes with a 30 mm 3-12X44 IE scope, which is one of the best you can get in this price category. The milt-dot of the scope is vital to know, and that is what this model offers.

Due to the design, it helps you to estimate how far away the target is. This knowledge certainly helps you to get off more accurate shots, even if the target is far away. Another reason why this range estimator is good is because it helps you to know the required adjustments to make before taking a shot. With this estimator, you can put the wind conditions and similar factors into consideration – especially when shooting a moving target. Simply look through the optic and you will easily calculate how far the distance is.

The UTG3-12X44 comes with a very compact design. This compact design offers several benefits. For one, it makes it super easy to store the scope and move it around with you. You can easily install it on other rifles too. Since it isn’t heavy, it doesn’t affect the weight of the rifle, which in turn can affect your accuracy.

The UTG3-12X44 sports a 30 mm Tube that is filled with nitrogen and is one of the best platforms available. It assists you to shoot better and it lasts for longer.

One other excellent feature of this model are the lenses. These are multicoated and offer some of the best functionality of any scope we have reviewed. The emerald coated lenses makes for a great unit for AR 10. This coating protects the lenses from damage and ensures that the lenses last longer.

Surprisingly, this model has a 36-color EZ Tap reticle. This feature is not usually found in budget level scopes – so it is a big surprise to find it on this model. With this reticle, you can make very accurate shots with the Mini 14 rifle. It gives you a very clear look, even in inclement weather.  Coupled with the circuit design, you have an option that can give excellent overall operation.

The scope itself is built to last since it is rain-proof, durable, and fog-proof, even though a bit heavy.

    What are its best features?
  • Excellent parallax adjustment
  • Scope locking feature
  • Reliable performance
  • Great for all skill levels
    What could be improved?
  • Slightly heavy

Best for Twilight

Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9×40

Features
  • Objective lens diameter: 40 mm
  • Magnification: 3-9x
  • Field of view: 33.1-13.6 ft. at 100 yds.
  • Eye relief: 4.2-3.7 in.
  • Length: 12.39 in.
  • Weight: 12.2 oz.

More features: ¼ MOA finger click, 3^1 zoom ratio, twilight light management system, waterproof, fogproof

This is an excellent scope for the price and comes from one of the best makers of budget rifle scopes in the USA.

Let’s now consider some of the best features of the Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9×40.

The coating on the lens is an important consideration for several reasons. All scopes come with coating on the lenses, although they might call the coating something proprietary. The Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9×40 comes with the Twilight Light Management System of coating. This coating comes in very useful. When combined with the physical components of the lens, you have a coating that ensures that you get an appropriate amount of light. While it gives you plenty of light, it also results in a vibrant scope with colors, contrasts , highlights, and shadows to allow you see and hit the target even if it is some distance away. Additionally, because of this coating, you will not suffer from glare when looking in the direction of light.

Up next are the dials. Using the controls can be tricky, especially if the model is not well constructed. Fortunately, that isn’t the case with this model. This model comes with a textured lock ring that allows you to adjust several things in the scope. It is designed in such a way that it does not interfere with the handle of the rifle.

The middle of the dials includes a turret erector system. While there is no parallax adjustment dial, the parallax effect has been fixed to make for more accurate shooting.

Just below the turret caps are the windage and elevation adjustments. Why like this scope because of certain factors. For one, the values are easy to read and varied. It makes for simple zeroing. There is also CDS that lets you adjust ranges based on the custom dial.

Eye relief is excellent ranging from 33/4” at maximum magnification and 5” on the lowest magnification.

At 13 ounces, the weight is negligible and makes the scope easy to use.

Durability is an important consideration when choosing a scope for a ranch rifle. The Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9×40 comes with a durable construction. Leupold acquired the Redfield company and this has improved the quality of products. Therefore, the Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9×40 sports a similar type of build as The REDFIELD REVOLUTION 2-7×33 reviewed above. 6061-T6 aluminum construction makes it last far longer than lower quality materials. Coupled with the anodized finish, you have a scope that feels sturdy and will last for long. While this isn’t the most durable type of aluminum in scopes, considering the cost, it is still an excellent choice of material.

    Why are we impressed?
  • Durable build
  • Lightweight
  • Excellent adjustment dials
  • Good glass coating
What negatives must you be aware of?
  • MOA reticle is finer than the usual duplex

This model comes with high quality features that will certainly surpass your expectations. It comes with speed, precision, reliability, and impressive clarity. First, you get multicoated lenses. These lenses come in very useful as you shoot. Another nice thing about this model is that there is an easily accessible zoom lever to quickly adjust magnification. There is eye relief of up to 3.75” and shock resistance to ensure your scope lasts for a long time.

This unit also uses a mil-dot reticle. There are several advantages to this design, with the main advantage being the ability to estimate the distance of the target. While this doesn’t compare with the most expensive units on the market, the performance is decent enough for the cost.

One thing that we love about this product is the design. It looks sleek and is one of the best looking models on this list. The design is clearly made to last. And the materials of construction make for a solid unit that will last for several years. It feels sturdy to hold without being heavy. The high-grade aluminum construction is solid and shock resistant. You can shoot without worrying that the heavy recoil would affect the durability. Only the coating might get scratched, but that is not a tragedy after all.

The reticle is also a good feature. It might not look like much, but the features make it stand out as one of the best in this price category.  It is simple to use and has ballistic circles to calculate bullet drop.

This scope offers zoom magnification between 3x to 14x. This modest magnification is good for small game hunting, shooting practice or range shooting.

With fast focus, you can sight targets easily and quickly. Although there is the normal distortion after zooming, the lenses correct the view in a matter of seconds.  There are also turrets that feel great and make shooting more accurate. Due to the sturdy design, turrets stay in place even after you shoot. Zeroing is a breeze using these turrets too.

Interestingly, this model offers click adjustment. Thus, you can have preset settings whenever you need them. Parallax adjustment also gives better accuracy over long distances.

Trijicon is mostly known for the ACOG battle sight made for military applications.  However, the company also specializes in scopes for rifles. The Trijicon TR23 AccuPoint 5-20×50 Riflescope is an impressive model that offers plenty of benefits to the shooter.

It sports an extreme clarity design that is common to products from Trijicon. The body is durable and will last for a long time since it is made of the same aluminum found in aircrafts.

It offers up to three separate reticles ranging from the duplex crosshair to the mil-dot, and the triangle post reticle found in their more expensive models.

Because of the matte finish, this scope is good for hunting because it will not reflect any light as you hunt. It also comes in a weather proof finish to enhance durability.

Things to Consider

From the roundup above, we have considered 10 of the best scopes for a Mini 14 ranch rifle. These ten options above offer plenty of useful features that make them excellent options. However, you might want to consider other options. If that is the case, then you need to know some of the most important features about buying scopes. In this section we will review some of the vital factors that can help you to choose the right product.

What factors make for a good Mini 14 scope?

11 Best Scopes for Mini 14 Ranch Rifle - Precision of Your Shot

What do you consider to be the most important feature of a gun? Well, for us, and for many others, it is the reliability and accuracy. These features are also important for a gun like the Mini 14 ranch rifle. While it comes with iron sights, the best accuracy can be achieved by using a scope.

This rifle, the Mini 14, is a very popular option for civilian, law enforcement, and military applications. However, the Ranch Rifle from the manufacturer is the main option for civilian application. This rifle comes with special .223 ammo and is effective and reliable at 100 yards. It comes with iron sights, which allow for improved accuracy. However, with the air of a scope, you can even hit the target more easily and frequently. The scope gives you more range. And if you practice consistently, you should be able to hit targets at up to 120 yards.

This isn’t designed to shoot over long ranges. Therefore getting a high-powered scope would not improve the range. The original use of the rifle is, as the name implies, made for watching over a ranch. It is a short range option that allows you to shoot targets within your property.

Features to consider

Here are some of the vital factors to put into consideration when choosing your rifle scope.

Magnification

This is how much closer you can see your target regardless of the distance from you. It is an important feature because it, simply put, helps you to see targets that are far away. If you end up buying a scope with the wrong magnification, it would affect the accuracy of your shooting.

Fixed and Variable magnifications are the styles made by manufacturers.

Fixed scopes, as the name implies are single magnification scopes. Variable scopes, as you might have guessed, allow for more magnification range. The difference between the two types of scopes is simply the versatility.

As we have pointed out earlier, this rifle is not for long range shooting. Therefore, you should not be looking for high-powered models in the hopes that it will help you to shoot further than 100 yards. The rifle is only accurate to that distance because the ammo would not have enough momentum to travel such long distances. Additionally, if you take the Mini 14 ranch rifle apart, you will discover that it only has a 14” barrel. Thus, any bullet shot will not have plenty of spin to contribute to stabilization.

With all the foregoing, choosing a scope with more than 12x magnification is almost pointless. A scope with that much magnification will certainly help you to see better, but for all the accuracy, you might as well use a telescope.

If you plan to use the Mini 14 ranch rifle as it is originally intended, you might not even need any scopes since it already has iron sights. This is enough to shoot at animals.

However, if you plan to use this rifle for hunting, you might need to add a scope with magnification. In such cases, you can get scopes with 3x to 9x magnification as these are excellent options. An example of such a scope is the Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9×40. It sports 3x-9x magnification.

For shooters that would not be hunting but plinking, a scope with up to 12x magnification is allowed. It would help you hit targets that are a little bit further. An example is the UTG 3-12X44.

If you are undecided on what you want to use the rifle for, or just want a model that can serve a variety of purposes, then we recommend a scope with 6x fixed magnification. This should be adequate for all your needs, whether plinking or watching over a range.  An example is the TRUGLO TRU-Brite 30 Series 1-6 X 24.

So, in conclusion, which scope should you choose based on magnification? Well, if you are hunting on different ranges, then a variable scope offers you more options. If not, you should go with the fixed scope.

A fixed scope will be less expensive, easier and faster to aim, and is usually of better quality that the variable scopes. The only downside is that you can never change the magnification.

Objective Lens

11 Best Scopes for Mini 14 Ranch Rifle - Precision of Your Shot

This lens lies at the end of the scope. When choosing a scope, you must consider this factor for your Mini 14 ranch rifle.

This lens is very important because it is what gives you clarity. The quality of this lens will determine how clearly you can see through the scope. It is also responsible for the brightness of your scope. In our experience, and as most experts would agree, the bigger the lens, the better your clarity and shooting.  However, if you have a quality objective lens, you will have some setbacks.

For example, the scope would be heavier. The reflection of light on the big lens can also alert your target to your presence.

Now that you know why the objective lens is important, you should now consider the type of coating on the lens.

Lens Coating

The major function of the coating is to enhance the light. However, it also serves other functions.

The coating of your lens will stop any fog or moisture from forming on the lens and obstructing your sight. Remember how the size of the lens can cause reflections? Well, manufacturers have found a way around that problem by means of coating. Therefore, another function of the lens coating is to help you to reduce or even eliminate glare. A proper coating will help you to see better and ensure that you are not blinded by light sources as you use the rifle scope.

These types of lens coating are:

  • Coated
  • Fully coated
  • Multicoated
  • Fully multicoated

Coated: This type of coating is done on only one surface of the scope.

Fully coated: In this method, the external glass is coated in one layer.

Multicoated: This refers to the coating of one surface in different layers. Most of the options we have reviewed above come with this type of coating.

Fully Multicoated: The whole external lens is coated in different layers.

Since there are different options, which of them should you use in a scope for your Mini 14 ranch rifle?

Well, we recommend a fully coated scope. It is the most common option, which means that many people find it to be useful. However, the main thing you should concern yourself with, is not the type of coating. Instead it should be the quality of the lens. Even the best coated lens will be useless on a poor quality lens.

Instead of stressing on the coating, you should concern yourself with the field of view.

Field of View

As the name clearly implies, this refers to how much of your surroundings you can see while looking from left to right through the scope. The more you magnify the lens, the less you can see in your field of view.

It is important to keep this feature in mind to avoid tunnel vision. It isn’t good for you if you can only look as though through a funnel. It will badly affect your shooting accuracy.

The Scope Reticule

This feature is found in most scopes. It appears as crosshairs and helps with improving accuracy. Apart from that this feature aloo makes it much easier to shoot and some of the best models can help you to estimate stuff like the distance of the target. When choosing a scope, you should keep in mind that there are three types of reticules.

These are the types:

  • Duplex
  • Mil-dot
  • BDC

Each of these has benefits and drawbacks which we will discuss now.

Duplex Reticule is the common option found on most scopes. It is common because of the ease of use. If you are just starting out with a scope, then you should strongly consider getting it as it will make your life much easier.

Mil-dot reticule is an excellent option that has the ability to estimate how far away your target is.

BDC is the most sophisticated type of reticule. It is designed to tell you stuff like the bullet drop and holdover among other things. If you want a model for your long range shooting, chances are that it would have this type of reticule.

Now that you know the types of reticules available, the question is which one should you use in your rifle? Well, in our opinion, there is no best type of reticule. The best one is that which you are comfortable with using and that you understand.

In choosing the reticule, you should keep in mind the Minute of Angle and the Milliradian.

The Minute of Angle is one way to measure accuracy. Milliradian is another way of measuring accuracy. While the MOA measures accuracy in 1” p 100 yards, MRAD measures it at .36” p 100 yards.

Just as with choosing reticule, the best measurement is that which you understand best. If you are American or use the American system of measurement, you would be more comfortable with the MOA.

Focal Plane

The two types of this plane are the First Focal plane and the Second Focal plane. The First focal plane is great if you have a long range target. However, if you have a short range target, which you often will using the Mini 14 Ranch rifle, you might suffer from an obstructed view.

On the other hand, the Second focal plane does not affect your view regardless of the range.

Weatherproofing

Since hunting is done outdoors, you might suddenly find yourself at the mercy of the elements. In such an occurrence, you must have a scope that can still work well in bad weather. That is why you need a scope with good weather proofing.

A weather proof model will be useful regardless of weather and even helps you in foggy conditions. The lens should be fog resistant so that you do not lose sight of the target. This is one reason why it is good to have a lens that is properly coated. Multi coating helps to weather proof your scope.

Eye Relief

11 Best Scopes for Mini 14 Ranch Rifle - Precision of Your Shot

The eye relief is simply the distance between your eye and the front lens of the scope that still offers you complete visibility of your field of view. It is very important to have good eye relief. Why? Because without it, you can incur serious injuries. A shot gun will recoil, and if your eye is too close to the lens, you might lose it. Therefore, you must consider a scope with good eye relief. One good thing about the Mini 14 rifle is that it doesn’t recoil a lot or with much force so the chances of losing an eye are minimal.

Well, in our opinion, you should have at least 3.5” of eye relief to be on the safe side in terms of eye relief.  This distance should increase the harder the gun recoils.

Parallax Adjustment

Not all scopes have this feature, but it is quite important. Parallax is the bane of many shooters because if it isn’t corrected, it can cause blurred images on the lens and make you to miss a shot. There are different ways to correct this problem.

A Parallax adjustment turret is a knob that helps to adjust parallax. It is found on some models like the Bushnell AR Optics 4.5-18x40mm Riflescope. Another way of overcoming this is through factory settings. Some manufacturers have in-built parallax adjusters in the lens. An example is that found in the Nikon P-223 BDC 600. Lastly, some models come with a scope ring that can be twisted to stop this problem.

All the above means are effective. However, the easiest of the three is that made directly into the lens by the manufacturer. With it, you do not have to adjust any settings or stuff like that.

Mounting

Since this rifle is a semi-auto, you must ensure that the scope is solidly mounted when in use. If not, you will lose zeroing. While there are several mounting options on the market, we recommend that you choose one with a one-piece design. This prevents parts from falling off, is more secure, and allows you to change out the scope quicker and more easily.

Durability and Warranty

The scope should be made with high quality parts. You don’t want to buy a model that will fail after a couple of hunting or shooting sessions.

That is why all the options we have reviewed above come with high quality parts and will last for a long time.

You should also ensure that your scope of choice is covered by a warranty. That way, if anything happens to the scope, you can replace or repair it without additional costs. Some of the models we have reviewed above come with a lifetime warranty.  One example is the REDFIELD REVOLUTION 2-7×33 with its lifetime warranty.
